To the Editor,
Your article, “Severe obesity in U S children has more than tripled since 2008,” gives a clear view of how serious this problem has become. The rise from 19 percent to more than 23 percent in just over a decade is not just a troubling trend. It reflects real families who are trying to keep up with a challenge that feels bigger every year.
At the Jump for Joy Foundation, we work directly with these families. What we see is that kids do better when they are welcomed and supported instead of judged. When they feel encouraged, they move more. When they move more, their confidence improves. That confidence becomes the bridge to better habits. It is simple but powerful, and it works because kids respond to connection.
We would be thankful for the chance to invite you or a representative from the Los Angeles Times to attend one of our youth wellness events. You would see how fitness, teamwork and positive psychology can shift the energy for a child in a single afternoon. If you are open to it, may we also include you on our media list for future updates. We will only send meaningful developments and will always respect your time.
Thank you for covering an issue that affects the future of our communities.
